former rivals that stole the show. cruz never formally endorsed trump. we'll have all of that coming up. katy, vai. >> thanks, we'll get back to the rnc in a minute. first, here in our area, oh, you're going to feel it, the 90s are making a comeback. >> all right 71 degrees at 6:01. let's get to bill henley and the neighborhood forecast. hey, bill. >> it's going to be bright sunshine today. we saw scattered clouds yesterday. we were in the 80s yesterday and warming into the 90s but a cooler start to begin with. 60s and low 70s. 91 degrees in new jersey. lehigh valley, 92. you can see the skies are already starting to brighten. just a few thin clouds there. and sunshine, you'll see it now at the stadium in delaware. 91 degrees in philadelphia, upper 80s for the suburbs. i'll give you the forecast hour

by hour when i'm back in a few minutes. jessica boyington has an update from the "first alert" traffic center. >> we're watching in northeast philadelphia for a house wire closing the outer lanes of the boulevard from whitacre and sun avenue. watching the schuylkill no delays yet. you can see the schuylkill look odd like this. 13 minutes only heading eastbound. into the vine street expressway into center city, speed is still way up there as well. no problems in center city as well. i'll have more updates for you as soon as that changes in the next ten minutes. to breaks news now where technology outages at asouthwest airlines yesterday continue to affect flights out of philadelphia this morning. right now, here's a live look at the philadelphia international airport. some passengers showed up this morning to get on their flights only to find out the flights were cancelled. we just checked and found out

computer glitch has affected a number of flights, including several out of philadelphia headed it ft. lauderdale, nashville and l.a. we have a crew on the way to the airport and we'll bring you information as soon as we get it. of course, stay with nbc10 and the app for updates on this breaking news. we want trump! we want trump! >> boos for cruz, followed by the delegates chanting "we want trump ""after the texas senator did not endorse trump. he congratulated trump on the nomination but declined to endorse him and that led to the boos. delegates chanted for cruz to endorse him. yet it reopened party wounds. it was a dramatic turn as it galvanized and infuriated his

supporters right before mike pence delivered his acceptance speech. cruz received boos from the crowd as he urged them to vote their conscience in november. >> please, don't stay home in november. stand and speak and vote your conscience, vote for candidates up and down the ticket who you trust to defend our freedom and to be faithful to the constitution. >> you'll remember cruz placed second behind trump in the overall delegate count. nbc10 lauren mace is with them after the speech. here's what they had to say. >> what did you think of that speech? >> i thought that speech was part of the conserve party of what's going on tonight. >> that was an embarrassing debacle. we're redefining soar winning.

>> trump tweeted out that he hadn't honored the original agreement to back the nominee. and he added no big. apparently he thought it was a big deal, chris christie, he called the speech awful, selfish and cute. >> with a nominee with the qualifications, i don't understand how someone can say he's a person of integrity and give that cute speech he did. and that was cute. >> christie added that cruz showed everybody why he has earned the reputation that he has on capitol hill. >> now, hillary clinton tweeted a short video of cruz after the speech pulling out quotes that she said about trump 28 days. pathological liar, out of a sociology textbook, narcissist.

cruz was the most mentioned out of tweets last night. and the second was mike pence, boos turned to cheers as he accepted the nomination for vice president. he was able to calm the crowd and charm them, as he spoke about his running mate. >> you know, he's a man known for a large personality. a color style and lots of charisma, so i guess he was just looking for some balance on the ticket. >> and he closed out the night, trump joined him on stage as the crowd cheered for the nominees. we'll hear more from pence later on. trump will formally accept his nomination the final night of the convention. coming up at 6:15, we are recapping a riveting speech from trump's son eric, plus a twitter mishap after one of last night's speeches. all of that coming up. for now, tracy davidson live in cleveland at the republican national convention. here at home, new this

morning, a neighborhood with gunfire, police say a man unloaded gunshots to people in a home. this morning, a man is in critical condition. the shooting happened happened in south philadelphia. matt delucia is outside of southwest detectives. it could have been so much worse? >> reporter: absolutely, vai, police say it could be worse because there were so many people, including infants inside that house. this happened around 11:00 last night. police were out there at 45th and market, philadelphia police investigating this case tell us there was a fight wean two women. of what this was all about is unclear. but at one point in the argument, investigators tell us that someone poured hot grease on another person. a man came into the house. pointed a gun in the face of one of the woman. pulled the trigger but the gun jammed.

the man ran out of the house into the backyard, got the gun working again and then fired seven shots into a back window. one of those bullets hit a 21-year-old man in the back. he's in the hospital. niece critical condition, but police tell us this situation could have been a whole lot worse. >> there's infants in there, young babies, kids understa s ue of 5. several sh several shots. bullets have no name. when you fire these guns there are consequences and serious injuries that can ruoccur. >> reporter: i spoke to a woman that police are even searching her house early this morning. police say if you have any information on this, give them a call. matt delucia, "nbc10 news." 8 minutes after 6:00. the sun is up and the

temperatures are getting ready to climb. usually the coolest time of day is just after sunrise which is where we are in wilmington. 60 in the lehigh valley. low 60s for the suburbs. delaware, wilmington at 67 degrees right now. low 60s with sunshine at south jersey and at the shore. while it's 71 degrees in philadelphia. the suburbs actually running a little cooler compared to yesterday morning. just a couple degrees. 63 in exton, 61 in north wales and bedminster also at 61 degrees. that's the starting point. with bright sunshine and a little bit of a shift in the wind, we'll see the temperatures climb. look at that, there's not a cloud in the sky. yesterday at this time, we saw clouds in the area. showers not happening today. sunshine will push the temperatures into the 80s. that's by 1:00, 86 for philadelphia. a big warmup for the suburbs. 75 degrees at 9:00. nice and comfortable at 9:00. and the humidity will be dropping some this afternoon as

temperatures warm into the 80s for the suburbs and lehigh valley. delaware, plenty of sunshine. 85 degrees by 1:00 this afternoon. 86 degrees at 5:00. and in between, i expect it to reach up to 90 degrees. same story for new jersey. 70s and into the 80s at the shore. most of the day, it will be in the 70s but it will reach into the lower 80s. that's at 1:00 this afternoon. that's the day, here's the seven-day forecast, as you've noticed, there's a big warmup on the way. it's not just the heat, also the humidity which is going to soar. this is why we've issued a "first alert" we'll have details when i come back with the 10 day on 10. 10 after 6:00 on your thursday. time to get a look at the roads with "first alert" traffic reporter jessica boyington. jessica, where are you looking for? >> we're watching route 70, kings highway in cherry hill, new jersey. you can see not a lot of cars on the roads right now. not seeing a lot of backups or

delay. a little sunglare, maybe that will tie you up just a little bit with poor visibility as well. otherwise, you're good to go. most new jersey roads looking like this right now. a little volume starting to accumulate on the philadelphia freeway, heading into philadelphia northbound. also watching northeast philadelphia for that house fire closing the outer lanes of the boulevard. southbound between whitacre avenue and rising sun avenue. nicetown there was an earlier fatal accident that happened on wissahickon avenue and robert avenue. traffic is moving through. i'll have updates when i come back, vai. a man gets into an accident, runs from police and then jumps into the schuylkill river. >> yeah. we'll have an update on the overnight search evidence that brought out rescue crews to the river. plus, the republican national convention coverage continues from cleveland. donald trump got his first

good morning, i'm live from cleveland. i'm tracy davidson. this is the final day of the republican national convention. tonight, donald trump will officially accept his nomination. we'll hear from ivanka tonight and last night we heard from his son eric. >> vote for the candidate who can't be bought, sold, purchased, bribed, coerced, intimidated or veer from the path that is right, just and true.

and, quite frankly, friend, vote for the one candidate who does not need this job. >> trump had a slipup on twitter last night, he mistakenly tagged the wrong scott walker in a tweet. he feets a lot. he's very active. but when he tweeted his thank you, he used the wrong twitter handle. the scott walker her tagged is actually a news anchor in new orleans. he said he got the tweet getting ready for the newscast, #wrong scott walker started trending. my colleagues lauren and jim will take over later this afternoon. you can follow everything as it happens on air and on our app and social media. just coming into the q tonight

we did a facebook live to show you what's happening around the q. police have continued their search for the man who jumped in the schuylkill river. he was involved in a crash near hollow and river roads in lower merion. he ran from police officers and then jumped in the water. divers searched throughout the night. we've reached out to police to see if a body was found. we are waiting to see if they did. a man is hit by a car driven by a man arrested for drunk driving that happened at wissahickon and roberts avenue. the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. police say they have a car and they also have the driver. hoping that situation gets worked out, but we're keeping an eye on that. anyway, let's check in with jessica boyington see what's happening on the roads this

morning. >> yeah, it's 6:17, so far, we haven't had any complications on the roads, knock on wood, but it is getting into that more voluminous at traffic at times. i don't know, that was probably not the right word. but she knows what i'm talking about. >> i know exactly what you're talking about. we were talking about a lot of our majors today actually being a little slow or slow start to getting the rush hour under way this morning. that's pretty much what the summer months are looking like for the most part. route 422 at trooper road. no delays towards the skshgk schuylkill. eight minutes to 29 from the schuylkill. and into the 60s as well. the p.a. turnpike looks okay, for the most part, east and westbound, no problems there. 21 minutes to the valley forge. we are still watching northeast philadelphia. seems like they're starting to

clear some of the equipment out of the way where there's a house fire closing parts of the outer lanes. rising sun avenue. route 70 in kings highway. this is cherry hill highway. no problems or delays. you may encounter that when you are running out the door. let's check in with mass transit and more in north philadelphia when i come back. >> announcer: now, your nbc10 "first alert" weather. 19 minutes after 6:00. the sun is up. it's going to be a beautiful day at the shore, but a warmer day. not only at the shore but inland, too. the temperatures are going to warm considerably. we're in the 60s and low 70s to start with. in fact, a little bit cooler than yesterday. not by much. interior new jersey, 65 degrees in turnersville. medford, you're down to 63 degrees this morning. and 67 in florence. sunshine, upper 80s and low 90s

this afternoon. but we're not going to see a lot of activity today. cooler temperatures. and there's a chance we'll get to clouds and thunderstorms tomorrow. look at the storms moving to the upper midwest into wisconsin. that's a possibility. that may help with the meet but not with the humidity as the wind becomes more southwesterly. that's a heating and more humid direction for us. and that's going to really send the temperatures up. the feel-like temperatures, the heat index projection for tomorrow afternoon, 97 degrees for philadelphia. into the 90s for the lehigh valley. the suburbs. look at wilmington, 97 degrees. but it gets even hotter and more humid this weekend. by saturday afternoon, the heat index, topping 100 easily. closer to 105. 104 in philadelphia and swedesboro. 101 in allentown. 103 for wilmington.

look at egg harbor township at 101 degrees. and it won't be just saturday. we're also talking sunday and monday. the steam heat, the dangerous heat will be on full display. that's why we've issued a "first alert" for pennsylvania, new jersey and delaware. the temperatures climb into the middle to upper 90s. the feel like temperatures are 100 to 105 during this time period. limit outdoor act aivity as we're heading into the weekend. i know it's tough to do on a summer weekend. this is a weekend to do jut that. 91 degrees, middle 90s. a chance of isolated thunderstorms later tomorrow. the temperatures will feel like it's in the upper 90s. and it will be in upper 90s saturday and sunday with feels like temperatures saturday, sunday and monday topping 100 degrees. chance of storms, not much cooler as we head into next week. those cooler temperatures are going to have to wait until the end of the week and it's still hot and humid for thursday and

stage as senator did not endorse donald trump at the rnc this morning. the strong reactions from republicans. good morning, i'm tracy davidson live in cleveland. live from the last day of the republican national convention. mike pence officially accepted the nomination for vice president last night. his time in the spotlight but instead this morning, everyone is talking about ted cruz and what he did, or more importantly, what he did not say. we have reaction of that from the local delegates. vai and katy. today starts a stretch of 90 degree days in our area. >> yeah, 90-degree days, it's only going to get worse and worse. i hate to be the doomsday person. let's get to meteorologist bill henley who can give us the meterologial standpoint. a cooler start this morning.

trustees meeting today. theobald has been key in trying to get a 35,000 seat stadium built here in north philadelphia. the group stomp the staid stadium will put a ban on the stadium into a reasonable neighborhood. this is the board that had no confidence in theobald's leadership after learning of a deficit, a deficit as a result of international students scholarships. public discussion will be held later this afternoon in the main campus. reporting live at temple, i'm pamela osborne, "nbc10 news." >> announcer: now, your nbc10 "first alert" weather. we've got sunshine. bright sunshine. and the temperatures that are climbing. the temperatures will climb into the 90s this afternoon. nothing more than a few scattered clouds. that's a live view from center city. those clouds not producing any

rain today. but we could see a shower or thunderstorm tomorrow. for today, you'll see the temperatures climbing from the 70s this morning into the 80s by this afternoon. and the winds are shifting. and you'll see that over the next coming of days. they'll become more southwesterly. 8-mile-per-hour at 2:00, and the winds are increasing and that's going to bring in more humidity and for tomorrow, and today, cooling and spotty fog. then it this afternoon, 80s. the fog disappears. sunshine will brighten the lehigh valley. it's already nice and bright in lehigh valley. upper 70s at 10:00. 88 degrees at 2:00. even warmer at 4:00 this afternoon for the lehigh valley. no showers or thunderstorms first thing in new jersey. sunny skies to start with. 84 degrees this afternoon. up to 87 degrees at 2:00. and at the shore, a southerly wind, so that will keep

temperatures lower. but still in the 80s for the shore today. while delaware warms into the upper 80s after a sunny start, the weekend forecast, that's looking downright hot. in fact, dangerous heat as the temperatures soar into the upper 90s for philadelphia. the suburbs will see mid-90s for saturday and sunday. a bit hotter in the lehigh valley. south jersey and delaware, it will feel more like 100 degrees thankings to the high heat. and it continues on monday. there's a possibility we'll get showers and thunderstorms to drop temperatures at some point during the day on monday. i'll take a look at the ten-day outlook. the ten-day on ten when i come back in a few minutes. all right, bill. 20 minutes until 7:00. you are already concerned about humidity. >> we are concerned about humidity. >> thank you, vai.

we continue our live coverage from cleveland at the republican national convention where more arrests could come today as crowds plan more protests. there's a parade and rally ahead of donald trump formally accepting his party's nomination. yesterday, there was a flag burning outside the convention that sparked the most turbulent protests of the week. 17 people were arrested. the cleveland police chief said the person who started burning the flag caught him and police said no pepper spray was used. but an officer did use a fire extinguisher. despite this end delaware county sheriff mary hopper told me she's impressed with law enforcement. >> they're handling the protesters in my opinion has been as professional as it gets. they're letting them have their say, but not to the point where

it's so disruptive that the people coming and going is uncomfortable. >> the security is incredible. a mouse could not get into this building. i've been very impressed. there's a bunch of pennsylvania police, and there's police as far as california here. >> of course, philadelphia officials are keeping a close eye on what's happening here in cleveland as we prepare for the democratic national convention next week. vai and katy. tracy, you witnessed first hand protesters coming face-to-face and this was pretty early, how did they hand the situation? >> yeah, we arrived on saturday. and on sunday when we were getting our credentials. police let protesters go down the road, make a turn. they lined the road with their bikes, the police officers and sort of directs the protesters by. of course, when they came up to us prior and said we have to close down the road, my

higher on saturday. 104 degrees in philadelphia. it will feel more like 100 for allentown, pottstown, wilmington and egg harbor township. serious heat is on the way. in fact, dangerous heat which is why we issued a "first alert" for pennsylvania, new jersey and delaware. friday will be the worst of it. very hot and humid conditions, feel-like temperatures of 100 to 105 degrees. the humidity won't be that high. it will sneak up to this evening. tomorrow, we're watching the temperatures, look at that line of thunderstorms. that's a possibility for us in the late afternoon and evening hours. before those showers arrive. the temperatures will heat up and the humidity will be increasing. that's 8:00, tomorrow morning, those showers will move into the area and pretty quiet towards the evening hours. that's 5:30 tomorrow evening. an isolated shower or thunderstorm, possible into the evening hours even into south
